3/4  MUGshot Monday – editing exercise and comma splice assignment; Greek Mythology – Students will read story of Psyche and Eros, take notes as they read, and create flashcards for Psyche, Eros (different from the earlier Eros), Aphrodite, and Zephyrus; HOMEWORK:  QuickWrite #4 – “Do you believe in fate/destiny? Do you believe that there is one perfect person on the planet that you are supposed to fall in love with or do you believe that there are many people in the world with whom you could be happily married?”

AP English I

11/5  MUGshot Monday – editing exercise; “The Most Dangerous Game” – students will take a quiz before taking notes over the TEXXEXXT method of essay writing before in-class discussion of Richard Connell’s short story and then writing an expository essay over the same.

11/6  LTOW – catharsis; Students will continue writing their expository essay focusing on the TEXXEXXT method of writing body paragraphs.  HOMEWORK:  Complete expository essays.  Bring a printed copy to class.

11/7  Students will work through revision stations before turning in their completed essays.

11/8  Students will be introduced to dialectical journaling in preparation for our novel study of Night by Elie Wiesel and research and gather information on both the author and history of the time as background knowledge.  HOMEWORK:  Read chapter 1

11/9  SAT Vocabulary List 4 TEST  HOMEWORK:  Read chapters 2-3

10/22:  Red Ribbon Week:  Wear red!  Edgar Allen Poe – Students will do an author study so that they will sharpen their research skills as they learn about an important figure in American literature in preparation for close reading of some of his works.

10/23:  Red Ribbon Week:  Wear a team jersey!  LTOW:  apostrophe; Edgar Allen Poe – Students will read a short story or poem in small group, analyze the meanings in light of Poe’s background before sharing their discoveries with the class.

10/24:  Red Ribbon Week:  Dress Hawaiian!  Students will review the grammar and content codes used when grading essays/writings, take notes on expectations of essay/writing composition corrections, and begin correction process on their introductory paragraphs – DUE Monday.  HOMEWORK:  Students will watch a video on the French Catacombs in Paris for background knowledge and read “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allen Poe for in-class discussion tomorrow.

10/25:  Red Ribbon Week:  Dress as a Nerd!  Students will sign a reading statement and participate in a full class discussion over “The Cask of Amontillado”  HOMEWORK:  Students will continue the correction process on their introductory paragraphs.

10/26:  Red Ribbon Week:  Dress as Your Future!  Students will complete a Storytelling Arc including textual evidence over “The Cask of Amontillado.”  HOMEWORK:  Students will complete the correction process on their introductory paragraphs.
