Week 11: October 30 – November 3

AP English Lit

10/30 – Literary Term of the Week:  connotation; Non-Fiction Close Reading for Halloween:  “Horror Movies – Are they “horror”ible or hilarious?”  Students will read and annotate the article “Why we crave horror movies” by Stephen King and then analyze King’s technique and craft; Finally, students will be introduced to two-line horror stories and write their own.

10/31 – Students will take notes over the horror genre and then share/read their two-line horror stories.

11/1 – Half Day of School!  National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo):  Students will register for the class NaNoWriMo with their intent for their novella and begin considering good vs bad novels.

11/2 – NaNoWriMo:  Students will identify types of characters in a novel and create complex characters for their novel.

11/3 – NaNoWriMo:  Students will understand the importance of creating conflict; identify internal vs external conflicts and how conflict engages readers.

11/1 – Half Day of School!  Students will work through revision/editing process on their personal essay.  Essay DUE Friday 11/3.

11/2 – Texas Writing Workshop:  Students will work through the steps of writing a short story.  pgs 214-216  Topic and setting will be chosen. Personal Essay DUE Tomorrow.

11/3 – Texas Writing Workshop:  Students will work through character mapping and a story chart for their short story.
