4/30  Literary Term of the Week:  synecdoche; Students will sign a reading statement; Presentation responsibilities and assignments will be made as students prepare to teach their novels next week

AP English Lit

4/24   Literary Term of the Week:  synecdoche; Students will use their class time to read their chosen novel which they will teach to the class in May.  Students taking the AP English Lit test will work through test packets in preparation for the upcoming AP Test on May 9th.

4/24  Literary Term of the Week:  synecdoche;  Students will receive assigned novels along with directions for group presentations in May.

4/16  Literary Term of the Week:  satire; Banned Books Unit will be introduced to students and they will begin researching the whys and hows of banning/challenging books for an in-class discussion on Wednesday; SAT Vocab List 7 TEST Friday

4/10  Blackout Poetry:  Students will be introduced to Blackout or Found Poetry; as a class, students will read various examples before attempting to create their own.  Vocab assignment DUE 4/13; TEST 4/20

4/2  Literary Term of the Week:  pathetic fallacy; Poetry Unit:  Review writing literary analysis for poetry; students will write an analysis for the poem “Famous.”  DUE Friday

4/3  Poetry Unit:  “Seven Ages of Man”  Students will watch a video reading of the Shakespeare poem and then begin a close reading by working through the nine steps to read poetry.  Students will work through analysis questions of the poem on their own in preparation for class discussion tomorrow.  Literary Analysis of “Famous” is DUE Friday.

4/4  Poetry Unit:  “Seven Ages of Man”  Students will join in a class discussion of the poem based upon their analysis.  Literary Analysis of “Famous” is DUE Friday.

4/5  Poetry Unit:  Students will read “O Me! O Life!” by Walt Whitman and condense the poem into one sentence and the answer into another after discussing the meaning behind the poet’s words.  Literary Analysis of “Famous” is DUE Tomorrow.

4/6  Poetry Unit:  Poetry Terms Quiz; Students will watch some spoken word presentations on video and receive the Poetry Cafe assignment for next Friday.

4/2  Literary Term of the Week:  pathetic fallacy; Poetry Unit:  “Miniver Cheevy” students will read the poem as a close and then, in small groups begin a close reading by working through the nine steps to read poetry.  Students will then work through analysis questions of the poem in preparation for class discussion tomorrow.  Poetry terms QUIZ on Friday.

4/3  Poetry Unit:  “Miniver Cheevy” class discussion  based upon yesterday’s group analysis of the poem.  Poetry terms QUIZ on Friday.

4/4  Poetry Unit:  Students will read and write haikus.  Poetry terms QUIZ on Friday.

4/5  Poetry Unit:  Students will receive topics about which to write acrostic poems.  Poetry terms QUIZ tomorrow.

4/6  Poetry Unit:  Poetry Terms Quiz; students will watch some spoken word presentations on video and receive the Poetry Cafe assignment for next Friday.
